SAYAN BAIGALIYEV
Sayan Baigaliyev is a Kazakh artist, winner of the 2021 Jackson Painting Prize in the category of Scenes from Everyday Life, London. He had started painting at an early age, majoring in easel painting at KazNAA in Almaty, Kazakhstan. Later he trained at the workshop of contemporary painter Aidan Salakhova in Moscow and participated in exhibitions in Switzerland, Qatar, Turkey and Kazakhstan.
Baigaliyev's artistic gesture represents a unity of Turkic locality and nomadic multiculturalism. He aims to embed the spectator into scenes captured from the everyday. In his recent work, still life has become his main subject, as he finds inspiration in intimate spaces, daily life and the seemingly small and insignificant events that comprise them. Baigaliyev creates in an intuitive manner, exploring the spaces of modern life and artificial light through his distinctive compositions, while he deals with three-dimensionality and aims to disrupt the laws of linear perspective and proportions.
