SOPHIE ULLRICH
Sophie Ullrich is a Swiss-German artist, a graduate of the Düsseldorf Art Academy under the guidance of Eberhard Havekost. Her paintings show wide, often empty spaces, in which comic-like figures reside with influences from Pop Art and consumer culture painted in a hyper-realistic style.
The obscure, naïve protagonists are often reduced to minimal outlines and form the connection between narration, abstract elements and schematic backgrounds. Surreal long limbs and often missing heads of the figures create humorous impulses in the sceneries. Ullrich's visual language had already started to develop during her studies, and has since enabled her to fill her works with a wide variety of themes.
Works by Sophie Ullrich have been exhibited in solo and group shows in such countries as Germany, Luxembourg, South Korea, Italy and the US.
